The Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior (IC MoI) in cooperation with the State Police (SP) implements the project “Extension of the Functionality of the National Second Generation Schengen Information System and the SIRENE Data Flow Information System (Roud 1)” (hereinafter - the Project)  in the framework of the National Security Fund National Programme 2014 - 2020.

Project goal:

Development of the National SIS II, ensuring the maximum efficiency of the use of the SIS II functionality for quality control of the external border of the Republic of Latvia and the European Union, using the European Union and national information resources.

Project implementation period: 15.04.2016. – 31.08.2019.

Funding: EUR 1 083 938 (of which financed from the Fund: EUR 812 953, state budget: EUR 270 985).

Project activities:

  • Development of the SIRENE data flow information system (IS);
  • Development of the functionality of the National Second Generation Schengen IS (N.SIS II);
  • Development, testing and deployment of N.SIS II Automated Fingerprint IS (AFIS).

Results to be achieved in the project:

  • SIRENE IS has been upgraded in compliance with the most current requirements of the European Commission and the European Agency for the Management of Large-Scale IT Systems (eu-LISA), as well as supplemented with audit functionality;
  • The N.SIS II application has been upgraded in line with the latest European Commission requirements for SIS II;
  • Improvements have been made to the N.SIS II and the related national IS, ensuring full use of the SIS II functionality;
  • N.SIS II AFIS has been developed and is operational in order to allow fingerprinting of wanted persons in SIS II.
